Sensei Ryan Tucker 5th Dan

Sensei Ryan Tucker began his study of Karate aged 8 and joined the KUGB aged 12 when he began training under Sensei Nick Heald, and Sensei Matt Price as part of the LKA and Sensei Randy Williams as part of Leeds Shotokan.
Sensei Ryan has spent time as part of the KUGB Kata and Kumite squads and still regularly competes as part of the Kumite squad.
In 2012, the same year that Sensei Randy Williams sadly passed away, Sensei Ryan became the KUGB National Kumite Champion, a fitting tribute to the great man.

Sensei Ryan has competed for the KUGB England National team at every World and European championships since 2007, picking up numerous medals and titles along the way. He was part of the team that defeated the USA in the final of the 2017 World Championships in Treviso, Italy. The same team went on to defend the European title that they had won in 2016 with a victory over Belgium in the 2017 European Championships in Portugal.

The team went carried on the success in the 2018 European championships, making it 3 in a row as they took the title in Serbia.
In 2019 Sensei Ryan was honoured for his contribution outside of competition at the Leeds Sports Awards, where he was highly commended in the Coach, Participation category.

Sensei Ryan achieved his Godan (5th Dan) grading under the watchful eyes of the KUGB Technical Committee, Sensei Frank Brennan, Sensei Garry Harford and Sensei Billy Higgins.​
Sensei was the subject of a 2016 short documentary called “Shotokan” which followed his preparation and participation in the 2016 European Shotokan Karate Association Championships in Chalkida, Greece. You can watch the documentary here.
